Mike Johnson started out in the Chicago club scene which led to his envolvement in the The Mike Bloomfield Blues band. The group recorded one album "I'm Cuttin Out" for Columbia Records, produced by John Hammond SR, with Charlie Musclewhite 0n Harp, with John Hammond SR. producing.

From the first gig Mike's band; The Exkursons, Became COLLEGE CAMPUS PHENOMENON..Playing to thousands per night for three years the band toured the United States extensively and released an independant album, "The Exkursions" This was another pioneering Jazz/rock and blues band who'e message was Jesus, and his love for us.

Today the album is an international Rock and Roll collectors album.

  'This marks the the 20th anniversary of Compassion partnering with Christian artists, many of whom have helped raise awareness about the sponsorship program by exposing their concert audiences to it's existance.

Compassion Music program Director Andy ivey credits Mike johnson, an artist from the late 70s, with planting the seeds of the sponsorship idea. 'Mike Johnson had a wealthy benefactor who said 'I will underwrite a tour for you if you will make the tour a benefit for a charitable mission.' says Ivey. When Johnson came to us he had already contacted several ministries all of whom had turned him down. Compassion asked him to go to Haiti to see the work first hand.

When he came back to the states he was so eloquent in describing the work in Haiti, his involvement with the ministry became a huge success. That was the nugget that started the whole partnership between Compassion and Christian musicians."......................Andy Ivey, Compassion Music Director
